Life-long learner and technology enthusiast Latonia Baker shares her journey that spans the medical industry, architecture, education, and technology!
Latonia’s Bio: Latonia Baker has over 18 years of professional experience in education programs and operations. Before joining the Oak Park Education Foundation as Programs Director, she served as a Regional Operations Manager for a technology summer camp company where she managed programs for children ages 7 – 18. Prior to that, Latonia worked as an adjunct professor at the American Academy of Art teaching and creating curriculum for the Visual Studies department. While teaching at the college level, she also ran a digital design firm that focused on creating architectural computer models, graphics, and branding strategies for small businesses. Latonia began her professional career in Chicago’s architecture industry – working on design teams in the healthcare, education, and residential sectors. As a former architect, Latonia loved living in the Oak Park community for several years walking and bike riding amongst the world’s largest collection of Frank Lloyd Wright buildings. In addition to enjoying the history and creativity of Chicago’s architecture, Latonia loves serving as a volunteer basketball coach and mentor for the girl’s youth feeder teams in Hoffman Estates, IL.
“One of my favorite concepts is that where you are now in your life, meaning who you are – the things that you are doing and thinking, is generally a result of your actions prior to this day… For better or worse, I really appreciate this perspective because in addition to speaking to the consequence of positive rewards; it also indicates our personal action, accountability, and thus control over our own destiny. My career pivoting per se revolves around that and these experiences have led me to jobs in architecture, college education, 3D digital design, business, operations management, and now as Director of Programs for an education non-profit. The education non-profit arena has been an area of interest of mine for some time, and I believe my experiences have prepared me for this role. I am excited for what the future holds
